30 States Now Allow Campaign Funds for Security
Vote Mama Lobby marks a major milestone as the first organization pushing to get Campaign Funds for Security approved in all 50 states
WASHINGTON — Vote Mama Lobby celebrates 30 states now permitting candidates and elected officials to use Campaign Funds for Security (CFS), reflecting a growing recognition that urgent action is needed to safeguard democracy from political violence. This comes after New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Tennessee approved this critical resource recently, and as candidates across the country face rising threats, harassment, and intimidation.
This progress reflects Vote Mama Lobby’s leadership and advocacy. In response to rising political violence, Vote Mama Lobby championed CFS as a practical, urgently needed solution and worked with lawmakers and advocates to advance this policy nationwide. Since launching its Campaign Funds for Security initiative, Vote Mama Lobby has helped grow the number of states authorizing CFS from 15 to 30 in less than a year. The organization celebrated 25 CFS authorizations in late April, illustrating how fast this movement is growing.
“When candidates, particularly moms, are forced to choose between safety and service, we risk losing their much-needed voices at the decision-making table. As threats continue to rise, Campaign Funds for Security strengthens democracy for everyday Americans by helping public servants protect themselves and their families,” said Liuba Grechen Shirley, founder and CEO of Vote Mama Lobby. “This milestone builds on our playbook that helped Campaign Funds for Childcare get approved and authorized in 40 states and counting, proving that when we remove barriers to public service, more mamas can step up to lead, serve, and deliver for all families.”
According to a 2025 Vote Mama Foundation report, CFS spending among federal candidates spiked by over 7,000% over the past decade. By contrast, total campaign spending increased by only 389% in that same period.
